Physical education for children with disabilities

Physical activity is highly essential for the growth of a child. People in the present times have realized how essential physical activity is for people of all ages. Reports also say that the obesity levels in the kids have gone drastically high. Hence, many kids are going off the couch to engage themselves in some physical activity. This is the case with the regular kids but the same is highly essential for the kids with disabilities. They too need the right amount of physical activity to carry a healthy body in the future.

There are programs such as the Para Olympics for the disabled to show their talent in their favorite sport. However, many parents are in a notion that their kids cannot achieve this feat due to their disability. The School for Children with Disabilities is present to remove this notion about their children from the parents and to motivate those interested into professional sports events.

In regular schools, the coaches of that particular event would not be able to offer personalized attention and would be concentrating on a whole group. This could be a difficult task for the disabled children to grasp the skills needed for the sport. This is because the skills needed for the sport of the disabled is different when compared to the regular sport. At schools for children with disabilities, the students get personalized attention from the coaches.

The individual practice sessions with coach and the peer practice sessions help develop the skill in the child to play excellently in the sport. Engaging in these activities and working out to the muscles of the body regularly keep them strong and fit. Students at the school for disabilities who are not engaged in this professional training should also engage in a physical activity. This helps in overcoming the disability and improves the mental and physical health.

Engagement of the peer educators in physical education by having the children without disabilities to play with children with disabilities would bridge the gap between them. It would make the child with disability happy by playing with a peer who has no disability. Similarly, the children without any disability gain better understanding of the children with disabilities. This is a happy cycle followed by having physical education for the children with disabilities.

The Para educators who are introduced to train the children with disabilities on physical education are thoroughly trained about the interaction with the children who are disabled. The training is on communication, behavior and on how to work with the disabled child. This interaction with kids by kids brings about the success. The Para educators encourage the disabled students to engage themselves in sports.

There lies a great impact on a child when there is a one on one discussion with the child. Many disabled students would be under confident about their capabilities. The Para educators through a one on one counseling session make the students aware of their potential and encourage them to achieve excellence. Thus the School for Children with Disabilities conducts physical training for the disabled effectively.
